The QR Code has been around for decades, but some say it’s time to move on. Historically, The QR Code was developed from the Barcode – which was introduced in the 1960’s in Japan, to help cashiers, so that they wouldn’t need to manually enter product codes into the cash register. Over the years, manufacturers requested a 2 dimensional code, so that they can customize and brand it.
The QR code is a readable code scanned by a smartphone, and can connect offline and online marketing channels. It’s basically a sort of shortcut that encodes text, URL or other data, connecting the consumer right to the marketer’s desired destination.
It’s virtually impossible to find a person that doesn’t have a smartphone these days. People use their smartphones for many uses other than calling or texting, and according to some statistics, about 20% of smartphone owners scan QR codes for different purposes.
